The moment that summertime rolls around, the only caffeinated beverage I typically want to drink is cold brew. But cold brew is expensive, and although my coffee maker pulls a damn fine espresso, it’s unfortunately not a magic machine that can produce a cup of cold brew at a moment’s notice. Last summer, I tried to whip up a batch of cold brew on my own, but instead of the jet-fuel I’m accustomed to, I found myself drinking what I can only describe as wimpy bean water, and was forced to trudge over to the coffee shop in defeat.
Luckily, I was prepared this year. I think my phone got sick of me talking about how expensive cold brew is, and started serving me ads for a ton of different pre-made coffee brands. The one that stuck out to me the most was Jot — an ultra-intense coffee concentrate that is so strong, you only need to use 1 tablespoon to make a cup of coffee that has you typing a mile a minute or crushing a boxing class.
From personal experience, I would definitely recommend following Jot’s suggestion and only using a tablespoon. You may think that you can handle a lot of caffeine, but this stuff is powerful. Luckily, since it’s a concentrate you can choose your own adventure and add as little or as much liquid as you’d like, depending on how intense you like your coffee.
So yeah, it’s strong. But does it taste good? I think we both know the answer to that — would I be writing this if it didn’t? Jot’s Ultra Coffee is not just good. It’s impossibly delicious, insanely smooth, has the perfect level of mellow acidity, and tastes (dare I say) far superior to what I’ve found at most coffee shops.
You may be asking yourself…umm, can I make this concentrate stuff myself?
Definitely not. Jot sources their high-quality coffee beans directly from sustainable, fair-trade farms in South and Central America, and using a proprietary extraction method, creates a concentrate that’s (apparently) 20 times stronger and more intense than regular coffee. Good luck trying to crack that code!
I know I said earlier that the only thing I want to drink in the summertime is cold brew, but I take that statement back, since I realized that I can use Jot to make all of my wildest coffee fantasies come true. Jot blends phenomenally well with anything, from water and milk (or whatever alt-milk tickles your fancy) to ice cream and cocktails. An afternoon affogato? Coming right up! A mid-morning latte? I’ll start steaming the milk. An espresso martini moment? Break out the vodka. Get ready to stay up all night though, because remember, Jot doesn’t play around when it comes to caffeination.
A bottle of Jot is $24 and makes exactly 14 coffee drinks, which is the the equivalent of about five cups of cold brew at a coffee shop. That’s a no-brainer in my books. After my first sip, I set up a subscription for a few bottles a month, and was pleased to discover that they even offer a discount when you order more than one at a time. Thanks to Jot, my coffee maker will continue to collect dust until I finally decide to give it the boot.
